Youth Speaker - Sophia Bixler

Her statement is enclosed:

Hello, My name is Sophia Bixler. I am currently a rising sophomore at Cedar Cliff high school. I live in New Cumberland at xxx and would love to ask for the west shore rotary club to sponsor me to study abroad my junior year. The reason I’ve chosen the west shore rotary is because I attend school in the west shore school district and have lots of close relationships with people in west shore who I love and are so happy about me trying to pursue my education and challenge myself further than at just Cedar Cliff. I want to give you a few reasons why you should definitely consider me.

First I would like to say I’m a hard working student with my grades maintaining A’s and B’s with the exception of math which I got a C in this year but plan to work even harder this upcoming school year to change that. I’m very involved at school in six different clubs. I do track in the spring and dance all year around while holding a job in the woods at cedar run as a server. One of the main reasons why I want to study abroad is to really challenge myself and immerse myself in everything from the culture to maybe a different way of learning that I never knew I needed while following rotary’s rules and regulations. I can assure you, if you chose to sponsor me you will not be disappointed. To give some examples about how responsible I’ve been, I'd like to say that I've already saved 56% of what the rotary says you will need for exchange. I like working hard to earn the money I’m given whether it be from work, babysitting or just helping someone out. I hope when I’m on exchange I grow so much as not just a student but as an individual. To show what an amazing experience it is to immerse yourself so deeply in the rich culture of other people and to be a part of something that maybe you’ve never done before. I hope this letter makes you deeply consider sponsoring me for my exchange year to wherever I may go. It’s been such a pleasure to even be considered at all in the first place.

Thank you west shore rotary club for taking the time and energy to read and discuss this letter.
